Doomed

Published by under Entertainment

Amy is pretty picky when it comes to movies so I don’t get much of an assortment when she’s picking the movies. Every now and then it’s nice to get a horror or blow shit up type of movie. Every now and then I get to catch a movie like this when they pop on HBO, though. Last night I ended up watching one of the worst movies of last year, Doom. Normally when I see a movie that is critically recognized as a horrible movie, I tend to think it’s not as bad as what I’ve heard. This movie was the exception. The bad part was, I think it could have been a good movie. The characters were a little far fetched, the plot had potential (for it’s genre anyway) but some of the gimmicks just made it come up short. When it got to the first person shooter view, I lost a lot of interest in the movie. There have been plenty of movies that have spawned from video games that have been decent movies (Final Fantasy and Resident Evil come to mind).

The movie did have some decent special effects although were light on the amount of them. There were some plot twists that may have done more to detract from the movie than what it adds in interest. I’m glad I didn’t have to spend the money to rent the movie, but it was amusing enough to watch.

Speaking of bad movies, I was privileged enough to have been able to watch a made for TV movie, Re-animated. And by privileged, I mean forced to endure due to interest by an 8 and 6 year old. Had I been their age, I’m sure I would have enjoyed it as well. The basic premise was an unpopular kid who lives in a very atypical family. The father is a sugar addicted kid inside an adult’s body, the mother an apparent astronaut that never seems to remove her space suit, and an adopted alien sister that was picked up on one of the mother’s space missions. The kid then goes on a school trip to a Disney copy theme park where the founder had died some years ago and his brain was frozen. The boy gets hit by a train at which point, the cartoon characters from the theme park perform an emergency brain surgery and replace his with that of the previous founder. Once the boy gets the brain, he begins seeing the cartoon characters and they help him to popularity and to also assume the President role of the company. There’s more, but I won’t spoil if for you as I’m sure you will all want to run out and check this one out. Or you may find your time better spent cleaning toilets, it would probably be more intellectually stimulating.

Poker Update – New Games

Published by under Poker

Full Tilt updated their software today and incorporated mixed games. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this. I was thinking of signing up at Stars just to feed my want to play in these mixed games. I haven’t had much time to play so far this month, but this will help my motivation to play. I took it pretty hard on the chin last month so I decided to hop down in stakes a bit just to get my confidence back up and fix some leaks I know I have in my game right now. So I played a few tables tonight after I got home from our LUG meeting. I played a $25 buy in pot limit omaha/hold em mixed game a few orbits to get used to the game. Once I felt comfortable I opened up 2 more $50 tables. I was delighted to see that the play in both games was awful. I think I played ok in both games especially since I really haven’t played much in the way of hold em recently. so after about 175 hands and a little over an hour of actual time, I ended up around $65. I’ll take it.

I’m gonna keep playing the games for a while since they seem to be fairly soft and I could also use the extra hold em practice so I can get back into the swing of that game. It’s been around two months since I had played it with any regularity. This saturday I have a freeroll tourney that I would like to try and do well in. Hopefully this will be the key to getting me back into a good playing frame of mind.

Blog Redux

Published by under Personal

Well, here’s a little background. I had this site up and running before using a large and overly complex CMS system that I thought would be great cause of all the features I could/would have. As it turns out like most overly complex ideas, the complexity just hindered my ability to do the most simplest of things. That simple thing was just update my blog. A major purpose of the site.

So I scrapped it. I just went to a base blog software. Hopefully that will help me get back to what I want to do. I used to post pretty prolifically on my site, but I’ve been neglecting it recently. I’m actually excited about it now again and that’s good. I need more things to be excited about recently.
