And Then, Sometimes Life Gets In The Way

Published by under Personal,Poker

Life is what happens to
you while you’re busy
making other plans.
–John Lennon

Yesterday was just a crap day of all crap days. There were multiple issues that not only put my in state where I didn’t feel like playing the WCOOP, but even had the mental capacity to make a good run, an overdue project deadline kept me at work and prevented me from playing in the event.

The shiny point is that with the WCOOP Main Event looming, my W$ from my entry were at a premium. I ended up getting a little over $500 for my entry dollars. At least that puts me up for the month. That should save me for the month from not having 2 months in the red.

Yes, I’m desperately looking for those silver linings at this point. Right now that cloud is based on hopes of me being able to change my role at the company over the next few months.

Today the public library put on some chess club for kids. I think it was a little unorganized since the only ones to show up were us, another girl and the cousins we called right before we went to the “event”. Later on the son of the librarian who organized the event showed up and played me. I make no claims of even being good at chess even though I enjoy it and it was mildly emasculating to be easily handled by a preteen. Fortunately I was saved from any great deal of humiliation due to the fact that he had to go to soccer. We called a draw, but he was really making me think a lot harder than it should have been.

The kids really had fun with it, though, so I hope they keep doing it and that it gets better attendance in the future. It’s a good way for the kids to go out and meet new kids and have some brain stimulating fun too.

I Know I’ve Had A Lot Of Tech Stuff Lately…

Published by under Humor,Tech

But tough shit, take some more.

Due to my recent issues, I actually got a kick out of this. I always find it amusing how little tech “experts” actually know when you get to low paying positions like support people or those tech guys that work at various technology retail outlets. Yes, I mean you and you. I almost feel bad for all you techno-noobs out there that are at their mercy and no other options but to believe their technobabble. You poor, poor souls…

184 hours later

Published by under Personal

I give up. It’s been 184 hours since I’ve had a stable system and haven’t had the internet access that I typically require to sustain my sanity.

After all the boot sector issues and countless attempts at using various utilities to get past said issues, I’ve decided that it’s pointless to deal with the drive any longer. My attempts at trying to bring a little stability to my windows exile has been foiled. Oh well. I’ve stuck it out for over 10 months. What’s a little longer?

The good news for all this is that since a good portion of my existence resides in the online world and that portion has been suppressed, I will have some normalcy back in that portion of my life. Any of you who may have missed me, need not worry any longer. Internet, I’m back.

Another Day, Another Party

Published by under Personal,Poker

Yesterday we had yet another birthday party to attend. By now they pretty much all just seem to blend together. And for the second week in a row, it was another one at the zoo.

P9223412.JPG

In years past, we had gone to the zoo on a regular basis cause it’s cheap, the kids enjoy it and they get some fresh air.. This year, though, we hadn’t had the opportunity to make it to the zoo until the birthday party we attended last week and now we’ve been there twice in a week. Strange how that goes sometimes.

P9223470.JPG

At least this time, we had nothing else going on, so we were able to let the kids play around for a bit. The whole group even walked around the zoo before the party. It was kind of nice being able to have some time to shoot a few pics (or a few hundred). Even if we haven’t been there at all this year, at least we can pretend we have with all the pictures.

P9223399.JPG

Most of the whole group. I was with a small group of stragglers.

P9223383.JPG

Avery was really having a blast feeding all the animals. Even when we went by the alligators, he was tossing in some feed corn. There was no convincing him that they didn’t care for or want corn.

P9223371.JPG

P9223446.JPG

We spent a significant amount of time in the playground after the party. Probably good to burn off some of the sugar. It was apparent that that wasn’t even enough though as the trip to Target after words ended up being a crabby kid fest.

After a week of having my computer in various states of not being ready for prime time. I think I’m actually getting pretty close. But I still needed to get some stuff done like read my email, so when I signed on last night, Juskimo informed me of a $5 rebuy PLO event on stars last night. I hadn’t played nearly enough PLO as I had hoped in preparation of the WCOOP coming up at the end of the week, so I thought it sounded like a good opportunity. He fared better than I did, cashing out somewhere around 15th place. I didn’t get much going for myself through much of the tournament including the rebuy period and ended my run on with this hand.

Me getting my chips in with the best of it, was a reoccurring theme for the evening. I actually had some history with the villian in the hand, or at least as much history as you can have when someone has only been at the table for like 4 hands. His first hand he limped UTG and I potted it with my QQxxss and he folded that time. Not sure if he tried restealing and just got pot committed or what, but that ended my tourney.

So while I sweated Jus, I played a few PLO SnGs to get in some more practice. The last hand of the first one was:

Yep, that’s me getting felted with the chips going in while I had the best hand again. Eventually things have to turn in my favor. So I play a few hands in a ring game waiting for my $11 SnG to fill up, and make a few dollars. Here is the last hand of the SnG:

FullTiltPoker Game #3646071869: $10 + $1 Sit & Go (27810802), Table 1 – 100/200 – Pot Limit Omaha Hi – 4:00:15 ET – 2007/09/23

Again, me, with the best hand, shoving chips in. But what’s this??? Can it be??? Did they hold??? Positive variance obviously. That and the money I banked in the ring game, made me about scratch for the evening.
