And Just Like That, It’s Gone

What the poker gods giveth, the poker gods taketh away. I started playing the $100s again, well, because that’s what I’m gonna need to be playing to get anywhere close to achieving my goals. Again, the start isn’t so good. Unlike my foray back into these stakes in December, though, I don’t think they are from bad play. But that’s how it goes. One day you win as a 92% dog, the next day you lose all the coin flips. Doesn’t sound fair does it.

I had a little bit of time between kids vomiting to play a few hands this morning.

This hand showed what I had to deal with too. The guy was playing like every hand and would randomly push. I couldn’t make my typical continuation bets because I would get pot committed in awkward situations. I would get into positions where I would have to call with my modest holdings due to the fact that he didn’t have enough to get me to fold. And then, he sucks out.

And then…

This one wasn’t as much of a bad beat, but I was pretty certain I was ahead. I felt so disheartened when that last heart fell. Poker stars doesn’t show the hands until showdown, but I figured I was beat then. It was probably kind of a risky call preflop, but the button was raising a lot of hands folded to him, and I figured I was getting odds when the donkey to my left was calling (and I knew he was calling). I didn’t expect him to show the aces though. I didn’t think he was THAT passive preflop. The donkey eventaully built his stack up to around $70, lost a bit back down to $50 and then left before I could get my money back from him.

Might have to venture back to the 50s, but I think I’m gonna try and stick this out for a while. I am plenty bankrolled for it, so it’s just a matter of me not being a pussy.
